Visit Skellig Michael in June and July
Perhaps you’re a Star Wars fan. Or perhaps you’re a history buff, or a bird-watcher, or simply looking for beauty. If so, you’ll want to visit Skellig Michael in June and July.
Two remote, jagged pinnacles rise above crashing Atlantic waves. Today a UNESCO World Heritage Site, 7th century monks sought out this desolate place to live, write and pray in strange but beautiful stone beehive huts.
Climb 618 steps to discover beehive dwellings, and more built by monks of yesteryears. Known as a bird-watcher’s haven, a prime filming location for the 2017 and the 2015 Star Wars films, it’s also a place of extraordinary beauty and history.
But when to visit? It’s a tough call. The Skellig Islands lay 11 km off shore and Irish weather is famously unpredictable. You may shy away from visiting the island in June and July season, but the weather may actually be more favourable.
