Join us on this exhilarating Deluxe grade bike trip that explores the three peninsulas of the Kingdom of Kerry. The southwest of Ireland, and Kerry in particular, has long allured and inspired travellers from all over the world. Though Kerry is a popular destination, this bike trip will bring you on a backstage tour of Kerry’s wild side to explore the three Kerry peninsulas by bike.

From classic climbs to coastal cycles, on this fully-guided bike trip through the magical Kerry landscapes, you’ll explore Dingle’s beehive huts, Beara’s rugged landscapes, Killarney’s sparkling lakes, and Kerry’s soaring mountains. While biking the Kerry Peninsulas, you’ll traverse the three peninsulas of Kerry: the Beara, Iveragh and Dingle. Cycling the southwest, discover hidden gems, snug villages and iconic panoramas by day, all the while staying in fantastic deluxe-standard guesthouses and boutique hotels by night to combine epic cycling with lavish comfort.

    Trip Highlights

    • Traverse the 3 wild and diverse peninsulas of Kerry: Beara, Iveragh & Dingle.
    • Explore classic cycling routes: Molls Gap, the Gap of Dunloe & the Healy Pass.
    • Pedal through Ireland's highest mountain range & Killarney National Park.
    • Cycle to Ireland's westernmost point at Slea Head.

    Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1 – Exploring Quaint Kenmare

Meeting in Limerick, head south into the magical landscapes of Kerry for our first peninsula, the Beara Peninsula. You’ll explore rolling emerald hills, snug villages, ruined monasteries and even thatched cottages. Starting in lively Kenmare village, we’ll pedal off along country lanes for lovely bay views. (L, D)

    Distance: 16 km/10 miles

Day 2 – Bike Coast to Coast on the Beara Peninsula

The quietest and least-known peninsula in Kerry, the dramatic Beara Peninsula is cycling heaven. We’ll weave across the headland from coast to coast, with time to take in the Healy Pass, a classic Irish cycling route. The undulating views along this under-rated peninsula combined with its plethora of ancient history and fascinating local mythology, make Cork’s Beara Peninsula one of Ireland’s best-kept secrets and an absolute cycling gem. (B, L)

    Distance: 69 km/43 miles

Day 3 – Ring of Kerry & MacGillycuddy’s Reeks Mountains

Biking our second peninsula, the Iveragh Peninsula is home to the world-famous Ring of Kerry. Cycling along stretches of the renowned route, we’ll pass among the soaring McGillicuddy’s Reeks Mountains, winding past Ireland’s highest mountain following an ancient route named for Oisin, a mythological Irish hero, to arrive in Killarney National Park. (B, L)

    Distance: 74 km/46 miles

Day 4 – Killarney National Park & Gap of Dunloe

Today we’re in for a treat with several iconic cycling routes on our route. Cycling through Molls Gap offers panoramic views over the mountains we conquered yesterday before we cross the beloved Gap of Dunloe, home to the iconic Wishing Bridge. Pedalling through the lush verdant canopy of Killarney woodlands, bike the shores of the spectacular lakes, gaze up the romantic ruins of crumbling castles, hear the clip-clop of quaint horse-drawn carriages, and perhaps even spot the local red deer. (B, L)

    Distance: 65 km/40 miles

Day 5 – Cycling the Dingle Peninsula

The Dingle Peninsula is the final headland in the trip of peninsulas on this bike tour. After mastering the classic climbs along the Ring of Kerry, we’ll say goodbye to Iveragh’s peaks and enjoy Dingle’s gentler coastal roads. Breathe in the salty Atlantic Ocean air with every pedal stroke as you gaze out upon white sand beaches and the craggy Kerry coastline. Ireland is world-renowned for its whiskey, so after our bike ride today, we’re in for a treat – a whiskey tasting led by a connoisseur. In the evening, enjoy some of Dingle’s live music – a bastion of traditional Irish music. (B, L)

    Distance: 25 km/15 miles

Day 6 – Bike to Slea Head, Ireland's Westerly Point

Slea Head is about as far west as we can go – the next stop west is North America. Looping around this amazing headland, drink in the fantastic views of the remote Blasket Islands, evacuated in the 1950s, before exploring ancient monastic beehive huts, stone oratories and hidden coves of Slea Head – perhaps with time to taste some local whiskey. In the evening, we’ll celebrate the end of our trip with a splendid feast. (B, L, D)

    Distance: 53 km/32 miles

    Day 7 – Limerick & Departure

Leaving the wilds of Kerry’s peninsulas behind, we head back to Limerick, a city that’s seen its fair share of urban development in recent years, in time for regular train connections to Dublin. (B)

    Trip Grading Read More

    Blue Graded 4-6

Our blue graded trips are aimed at people who regularly enjoy road cycling and may have completed a multi-day cycle tour before. These trips include the occasional day with steeper climbs, but with plenty of opportunities to stop and admire the view and take photos.

Harder days are usually followed by much easier ones both in terms of how much distance we cover that day and the number of steep ascents. Most days these trips allow plenty of time for exploring the surrounding area and enjoying relaxed lunches.

Distance typically ranges from 30-50 miles each with rolling terrain. On some days you can expect some more challenging climbs and steeper descents. But remember, our support minivan will always be available to offer you a ride if you need it.

    Blue Grades 4-6

The road cycling trips that we offer are graded to take into account a combination of the general level of fitness required and the number of miles cover as well as the daily ascent and estimated saddle time.

Our blue graded trips are aimed at people who regularly enjoy road cycling and may have completed a multi-day cycle tour before. These trips include the occasional day with steeper climbs, but with plenty of opportunity to stop and to admire the view and take photos.

Harder days are usually followed by much easier ones both in terms of how much distance we cover that day and the number of steep ascents. Most days these trips allow plenty of time for exploring the surrounding area and to enjoy relaxed lunches.

Before joining this trip, the questions you should be asking yourself are:

Are you happy being on your bike for around six hours each day for several days in a row?

Do you regularly ride your bike most weeks or have you done a multi day tour recently?

Are you comfortable climbing and descending steep roads?
