    Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrive on Skye and Hike in Glen Sligachan

Meet your Wilderness guide at Inverness Train Station this morning and enjoy a scenic drive west to the magical Isle of Skye. Cross the Skye Bridge and enjoy the views stretching across the white-crested waves. Stop by the remote Glen Sligachan for a short stroll to stretch your legs. This long and lonely glen is a beautiful and atmospheric place, offering an excellent introduction to this wild landscape. Afterwards, continue north, winding your way through the bustling town of Portree to your hotel, which looks out across the Sound of Raasay. (L, D)

    Walk details: 3 km/2 miles | approx. 2 hrs | 160 m/525 ft of ascent

Day 2 – Hiking the Trotternish Peninsula

This morning, head out to explore the dramatic landscape of the Quiraing. As you walk, admire the stark rock formations that rise from the rugged ground like great ruined battlements. Enjoy the incredible sweeping views of islands, mountains and the sun-clipped shores that stretch in every direction. Chat with your guide about the region’s unique geology, learning about the labyrinth of leaning lava rocks, weathered buttresses and rocky architecture. Return to your lovely hotel, perhaps enjoying an aperitif before a delicious dinner this evening. (B, L)

    Walk details: 8 km/5 miles | approx. 4 hrs | up to 390 m/1,280 ft ascent

Day 3 – Exploring Raasay Island

After breakfast, looking out across the tranquil bay, catch a small ferry to the quiet and geologically diverse Isle of Raasay. Often overlooked, this peaceful island offers much to explore. From the distinctive, rugged peak of Dùn Caan to coastal circuits on swathes of golden sand, there are many engaging walks to choose from. Keep an eye out for wildlife, perhaps spotting the soaring silhouette of a white-tailed eagle, known in Gaelic as iolaire sùil na grèineas – the eagle with the sunlit eye. (B, L)

    Walk details: 10 km/8 miles | approx. 5 hrs | 280 m/920 ft of ascent

Day 4 – Hiking to the Clearance Villages

Lace-up your boots this morning and head out for a beautiful walk with your guide. Hike along the coast and past the ruins of two villages abandoned during the Highland Clearances. Learn more about this incredibly dark time in Scottish history as you explore the mossy walls of the old houses. As the soft breeze carries the smell of salt and sunshine across the heather, gradually ascend above the white-flecked waves, listening to the raucous call of seabirds and enjoying time spent in the fresh air. (B, L)

    Walk details: 16.5 km/10 miles | approx. 6 hrs | 350 m/984 ft of ascent

Day 5 – Discover Loch Coruisk

This morning, wind your way to Elgol, a tiny hamlet scattered along the western cliffs of the Strathaird Peninsula. From a small jetty, sail over Loch Scavaig into the very heart of the Black Cuillin. Venture ashore to explore Loch Coruisk (known colloquially as Cauldron of the Waters), a deep dark loch that stretches like a shadow below the volcanic peaks. While there isn’t much ascent today, the walking is sometimes rough, and a couple of river crossings involve stepping stones. Back at your hotel, enjoy a relaxing evening, perhaps stepping outside after dinner to appreciate a sky awash with stars. (B, L)

    Walk details: 7 km/4 miles | approx. 4 hrs | 122 m/400 ft of ascent

    Day 6 – Waternish Point

After breakfast, join your guide for a cracker of a coastal walk. Suited and booted, hike out to a remote headland crowned by a lighthouse that overlooks the Minch and the Outer Hebrides. This peaceful bluff is a beautiful, quiet place to spot whales and dolphins on a calm day and enjoy stunning views of the dramatic sea cliffs of the distant Dunvegan Head. During the walk, pass the ancient ruins of one of the best-preserved brochs on Skye. This evening, perhaps wander into Portree and watch the evening sun gild the far mountains in syrupy, amber gold. (B, L, D)

    Walk details: 13 km/8 miles | approx. 5 hrs | 390 m/1,275 ft ascent

Day 7 – Hike and Depart

After breakfast, begin meandering your way back towards Inverness. Along the way, take a short walk to an otter hide to try and catch a glimpse of the elusive otters down on the shoreline, before catching the community-owned turntable ferry back to the mainland. Once ashore, take in the spectacular views as your van winds its way over Mam Ratigan Pass, following an old drover’s road and then steadily make your way east, arriving at Inverness Train Station at 4.00 pm, where your trip will conclude. (B, L)

    Walk details: 3 km/2 miles | approx. 2 hrs | 10 m/30 ft ascent
