Hiking the desolate and eerily beautiful landscapes of the north – Glenveagh National Park.
Northern Ireland has literally inspired worlds. If you’re a Chronicles of Narnia fan you may recognise some of the landscapes – Irish author CS Lewis was heavily influenced by Northern Ireland (Dunluce Castle, the Mourne Mountains and Carlingford Fjord are immortalised under other names in his books).
Game of Thrones fans may recognise places like Ballintoy, the Dark Hedges, Cushendum Caves, Downhill Beach, the Mourne Mountains and more as filming locations in the series. Star Wars fans may recognise some of the northern coastline – particularly in Co. Donegal around Malin Head in the extreme north – as locations in the 2015 and 2017 Star Wars movies. The Giant’s Causeway has inspired one of the most intriguing myths of Ireland.
Along the Causeway Coastal Route and the rugged Donegal coast, you’ll hike along cliff sides, sea stacks, islands – such as Rathlin and its colony of water fowl – ruinous castles, and charming coastal villages as you get a flavour of the northern coastline.

It ended up being one of the best trips I've ever been on. It was my first time on a trail holiday and it was so stunning and beautiful, with a great bunch of people that I was really grateful for everyone at Wilderness ireland for making it so!
