Why Choose a Private Tour in Ireland?

    Private Travel, Your Way

Imagine you’re standing atop a quiet, windblown summit, surrounded by a group of your best friends, cheering each other on for accomplishing a shared goal.
The scene shifts – now you’re enjoying some mother-daughter bonding time, wine and cheese tasting at a family farm tucked into a ruggedly remote region of Connemara.

Perhaps you’re celebrating one of the big moments in life – an anniversary, renewing your vows, retirement, a milestone birthday – surrounded by your favourite people while island hopping across the salt-stained coasts of southwest Ireland.

No strangers, no rush — just space to savour the moment with those closest to you. This is what private travel means in Ireland.

Who Is a Private Tour For?

Overlooking a beach on Malin Head.

The first time I visited Ireland before moving here, I was an adult travelling with my family. Scattered across the globe, my family chose Ireland as the place to meet in order to take time out of our busy schedules and spend time together. An active family who enjoys the outdoors, we hiked sections along the Dingle Way, taking off our shoes to wander barefoot across the white sands and cold Atlantic waves. For my brother and me, both history lovers, we went in search of Dingle’s ancient heritage, and in the evenings, we sought out traditional Irish music for my parents. It was a private tour that suited us perfectly.

While that trip might not resonate with you, does any of the below sound familiar?

You’re a couple looking to celebrate a special occasion in Ireland – renewing your vows in a traditional handfasting ceremony. You’re a group of friends who meet up to travel the world together, enthusiastically choosing a different destination each year. You’re a parent excited about spending some quality time with your adult child. You’re a family looking to uncover your Irish heritage together. You’re newly retired and excited about a new chapter of adventure and discovery. You’re a cycling or walking club with a shared passion.

There’s no one way to explore and discover Ireland.

Why Will Private Travel Work for You?

    Your Private Guide

A great trip is about more than landscapes and activities — it’s about the people you share them with. That’s why we put so much care into matching you with the right guide. With over 40 guides in our Wilderness family, each brings not only a love for the outdoors but also their own unique passions — from history and music to food, wildlife, geology and more.

By listening to what excites you most, your guide shapes your experience into something that feels personal to you. Want to fully embrace Ireland’s pub culture with a roaring fire, a pint of stout, and a traditional music session? Love stories and crave tales of myth and folklore? Fascinated by flora and fauna and want to discover Ireland’s wild side? They’ll make it happen.

Flexible and resourceful, your guide will adapt alongside you as the journey unfolds. Enjoy the freedom to follow your curiosity while leaving the logistics in their hands.

More than simply leading the way, your guide opens doors to an authentic Ireland — introducing you to local characters, weaving stories of the land, and sharing moments that feel less like sightseeing and more like belonging. It’s no wonder many of our travellers leave saying their guide felt “like one of the family.”
