    A Mini Bio

From my earliest memories, I have been drawn to exploring the remote, the wild and the isolated. Sharing these places with others on foot or bike brings me the greatest joy. The change of seasons, the abundance of nature, the sun, the wind and the rain are my oxygen. Hidden valleys, stone walls and ancient roads race in my blood. A quiet pint, fresh crab claws, a beautiful ballad or a story well told feed my soul.

I have been fortunate to have walked, cycled and explored much of Europe’s most amazing backdrops but I am always drawn back to the wilds of Ireland. As a child and later as a parent its extraordinary landscape, history and culture have kept me nurtured.

I am lucky to have been able to share these experiences with family and friends for many years. Mountain biking steep slopes, cycling remote roads, climbing a mountain or paddling an estuary, always so much to do.

    Favourite Place to Play

Sheep’s Head and the Beara Peninsulas in West Cork are very, very special to me.

    Experience Read More

As a seventeen-year-old, I set off on my motorbike and I hostelled, camped and explored the Ireland of that time.

    Then I cycled it.

    Then I climbed it.

    And eventually, I walked it.

I love to share my lifelong love for these adventures with other people.

Favourite Regions of Ireland Read More

I am drawn like a moth to a flame to the remote regions of Ireland. Its songs and stories, its backroads, beaches and bogs, its mountains and hills, its islands and crags.

Despite decades of exploring our countryside it continues to provide new discoveries and joy every time. The west and especially West Cork and Kerry are probably my favourites but the beautiful Ancient East and our less trodden Hidden Heartlands with its canals, bogs, riverbanks and lakes have caught my eye in recent years, and are a truly amazing treasure-trove.
