bike tour - bike fleet Ireland

Meet the Fleet

New for 2019, we have a brand new TREK bike fleet available for all of our bike trips! Take a look at the three options below.

Road Bike: Trek – Checkpoint ALR 5

Trek Checkpoint ALR

The first bike we are unboxing is the Checkpoint ALR 5, Trek’s superb road bike and perfect for serious cyclists. The Checkpoint ALR is part of Trek’s Adventure bike range, making it ideal for Ireland’s small, winding and sometimes rough roads.

So what makes the Checkpoint ALR 5 special? Let’s start with the framework. Built using Trek’s best-quality aluminium, the Checkpoint ALR 5 has a lightweight carbon fork that has been based on previous best-selling Trek bikes. Another important quality is the full Shimano 105 groupset, which includes hydraulic disc brakes which offer superior braking performance in all weather conditions – perfect for Ireland’s changeable weather.

As for gears, expect 11-speed gearing and a wide-range cassette perfect for pedalling up and down Ireland’s beautiful winding roads and rolling hills. The Checkpoint ALR 5’s gear system should be ideal even for the country’s more challenging climbs as well.

As for the tires, we’ve fitted the Checkpoints with 32mm tires. While these tires may be a bit wider than what you’re used to, but the added with provides a serious increase in comfort as well as control without compromising rolling resistance or speed.

All in all, the Checkpoint ALR 5 has been carefully chosen by our cycling experts as the ideal road bike for Irish roads, weather and terrain, providing the perfect balance between comfort, speed and functionality.

 Trek – Verve +

Trek Verve +

And now, for the first time, we are proud to welcome e-bikes to our fleet! We’ve chosen Trek’s Verve + e-bike to round out our bike categories.

What exactly is an e-bike? It’s not a motorcycle or even a scooter. The e-bike looks and feels like a regular bike, and it is still a bicycle that requires you to pedal and therefore you’ll still be getting a workout. E-bikes have a small battery attached which includes a pedal assist that can be turned on when you desire. There are several levels of assist available, depending on the grading of the climb. It’s a bit like always having the wind at your back!

E-bikes are ideal for those who may want to join a more challenging trip, or would like to keep up with a faster partner or group of friends – or for cyclists who prefer to focus on simply enjoying the views and the scenery. Verve+ is made up of a lightweight aluminium frame and a 250-watt Bosch Active Line mid-drive motor which allows one to sustain speeds up to 25 km/h. Speeds and motor can be controlled from a  small handlebar-mounted device.

Verve+ Specifications details:
