The first bike we are unboxing is the Checkpoint ALR 5, Trek’s superb road bike and perfect for serious cyclists. The Checkpoint ALR is part of Trek’s Adventure bike range, making it ideal for Ireland’s small, winding and sometimes rough roads.
So what makes the Checkpoint ALR 5 special? Let’s start with the framework. Built using Trek’s best-quality aluminium, the Checkpoint ALR 5 has a lightweight carbon fork that has been based on previous best-selling Trek bikes. Another important quality is the full Shimano 105 groupset, which includes hydraulic disc brakes which offer superior braking performance in all weather conditions – perfect for Ireland’s changeable weather.
As for gears, expect 11-speed gearing and a wide-range cassette perfect for pedalling up and down Ireland’s beautiful winding roads and rolling hills. The Checkpoint ALR 5’s gear system should be ideal even for the country’s more challenging climbs as well.
As for the tires, we’ve fitted the Checkpoints with 32mm tires. While these tires may be a bit wider than what you’re used to, but the added with provides a serious increase in comfort as well as control without compromising rolling resistance or speed.
All in all, the Checkpoint ALR 5 has been carefully chosen by our cycling experts as the ideal road bike for Irish roads, weather and terrain, providing the perfect balance between comfort, speed and functionality.
