Trip Comments
We loved Donegal and our guides, Andrew and Shane couldn’t have been better. They did everything to make our experiences memorable and comfortable. They were informative and fun. We wish them both continued successes in their lives.
Accommodation & Food
Overall I was delighted. My partner would have liked a larger bed in the first 2 venues, and a quieter room in Ardara where our room was close to the street, but I realized that if you want to go to smaller venues that are more remote from tourist mobs, that you don’t always have the number of options. Rathmullan was top notch and a great way to finish the experience.
Your Guide
I’ve already praised our guides, Andrew and Shane, and I would just reiterate that they were great. I’ve been on other great European cycling trips, but feel that our guides top the list. Thanks!
The Bottom Line
Fantastic trip in every way. Even the rain just added to the memories (and I never thought I would say that!) By the way, the rain only soaked us one day, and we were prepared! We also had sunshine every day and this made our sightseeing spectacular. I have a titanium travel bike, but due to logistics, we decided to rent and the Trek bikes we had were perfect for the terrain, hills, and weather. This was the right choice. I would advise renters that water bottles are provided and the bike packs on the rental bikes are really spacious for virtually all necessities. ( I know you said something similar, but for some reason, I thought I should bring an extra pack anyway....not needed :-)!
Providing Garmins with route guidance was very much appreciated and added real security for the routing. Some of us would have liked a handlebar mirror as well, though everyone was a safe rider and no significant accidents occurred.
Thanks again for providing a great travel experience to Ireland. We loved it! By the way, we spent another week in the more touristy areas in the south.... also a great experience in other ways, but Wilderness Ireland was great Craic!
