Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1 – Dublin to the Blackstairs Mountains

Arrive in Dublin airport and make a short drive to the first of the mountain ranges on you adventure. Meet your local walking guide and folklorist for an introduction to the intriguing world of Celtic Ireland. Learn the importance of trees in ancient Ireland with a gentle hike.

Day 2 – Kilkenny

Enjoy a private walking tour of the medieval city of Kilkenny where you’ll learn of the colourful history of this ancient place. After lunch, try your hand at hurling, courtesy of some colourful locals. Hurling is one of Ireland’s most popular sports and the fastest field-sport in the world. (B)

Day 3 – Comeragh Mountains

Leave the urban centre of Kilkenny behind to head south into the jewel southeast – the mighty Comeragh Mountains. Wild and rugged, today you’ll explore this special spot with a hiking guide on a route tailored for you. The Comeragh Mountains are home to some of Ireland’s best hidden hiking trails.  There’s plenty to choose from – glaciated corries, thundering cascades, narrow ridges and boggy plateaus. Afterwards, visit the Copper Coast, a UNESCO geopark, before taking a ferry to your next hotel. (B)

Day 4 – The Saltee Islands

Privately owned, these little islands off the coast of Wexford are famous for their eccentric proprietors. The Saltee Islands are also home to one of Ireland’s largest, and least-visited seabird colonies. Join a boatman who will act as your guide in spotting seabirds like puffins, gannets and razorbills. Visit a seal colony to meet the local residents before spending the afternoon exploring the islands. (B)

Day 5 – Wicklow Mountain Biking

Meet a local bike guide today and learn the basics of mountain biking. Journey through easy rolling mountainous woodland or if you’re feeling adventurous, choose more challenging terrain. If you prefer, you may skip the bikes and meet a local hiking guide instead, exploring some of the best hiking country Ireland has to offer. After all, they don’t call Wicklow the “Garden of Ireland” for nothing! (B)

Day 6 – Wicklow Mountains National Park

Your hotel is Ireland’s only certified luxury bio-hotel – and a green ethos permeates everything they do. Today, you’ll meet their on-site forager for an exciting lesson in how to live off the land. This afternoon, further explore some ancient places, including the beautiful Glendalough monastic site. (B)

Day 7 – Powerscourt House & Gardens

Just 1 hour from Dublin city, there may be time to explore a little more before your self-drive of Ireland’s Ancient East adventure ends. Delve deeper into the stunning Wicklow Mountains or visit Powerscourt House, where you can explore both Ireland’s highest waterfall as well as gardens rated by National Geographic as among the most beautiful gardens in the world. (B)
