      There are two jurisdictions located on the island of Ireland: the Republic of Ireland, with Dublin as the capital, and Northern Ireland, with Belfast as the capital. The Republic of Ireland is an independent nation, while Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom.

      Northern Ireland is part of the UK so any visitors who plan to visit Northern Ireland will require an ETA. Visitors remaining in the Republic of Ireland will not need an ETA.

      What is it?

      The ETA is a new entry requirement for UK visitors. An ETA is currently required for all visits to the UK (which includes Northern Ireland), except in the case where you are an Irish or British citizen or resident. ETAs are also currently required for visitors transiting through the UK.

      How do I get an ETA?

      If your travel plans require you to get one, you should apply for your ETA before you travel to the UK or Northern Ireland – don’t worry, it’s quick, easy, and can be done in minutes. Application and approval times are generally swift, though we recommend that you apply early to ensure a stress-free trip.
