The Bottom Line

Wilderness Ireland turned our dream of visiting Ireland for a family holiday into reality. They took care of all the details, allowing us to focus on the wonderful history, scenery, people, and food! If you're going to see Ireland, do it like this. Everything, and I mean everything, with Wilderness Ireland was amazing and everything I could have asked for. We continued through Ireland after our official W.I. trip ended and hit some of the popular spots. I realized how very blessed I was to have experienced Ireland in such a unique way, that I felt sorry for the people on the cheesy tour buses.

I was able to get help with all my questions right up until we left. It wasn’t just questions related to our itinerary but also which train to take when our flight changed and how to tip properly. A quick guide might be useful with currency per country and tipping along with other tidbits or an Irish road signs guide for self drive tours. These are just suggestions I was very happy with all the support and the response time.

Trip Comments

All the hotels were fantastic. The Mourne Mountain hike was a beast but oh my gosh the views were wonderful and worth the climb. The whole of the causeway coast is magical. I loved hearing all the stories that have sprung up around the causeway. So many sea birds, we enjoyed watching them hunt on our Rathlin island trip. We heard at least two versions of the Robert the Bruce and the spider story. How can Ireland have so many awe inspiring sea cliffs? Slieve League was a great hike, we picnicked at the top and I’m pretty sure it was the best meal of the trip. There was a bumblebee that followed us part of that hike and we enjoyed watching how quickly she worked, pollinating flowers. There were some wonderful small moments among the grandeur. There are more highlights but almost too many to share.

Accommodation & Food

We spent a lot of time eating at the various hotel restaurants and bars just due to being worn out but they were all good. Soda and Scratch in the Derry craft village was one of my favorites. There is a bakery next door that we found that needs to be added as a suggestion. The cookies are bigger than your hand and so delicious.

Your Guide

Most of our trip was self-guided the routes provide were beautiful. Sometimes we did take more direct routes due to timing. As for our hiking and boat guides. They were great to work with. We always felt safe and comfortable, the hiking guides took there time on routes that were difficult. Our boat guide was upfront about how the weather and tides affects what we can see. All of them were a wealth of information on so many things and had some good suggestions that we tried out later in our trip. I would hike with both Berry and Paul again. I would love to come back and scuba dive with Aquaholics.

The Bottom Line

I’m going to suggest Wilderness Ireland to anyone that asks and probably a few that don’t. We had a great trip with no complaints but definitely some sore legs. We have even been considering what parts of this trip our parents would like for future visits to Ireland.
