    Favourite Place to Play

Choosing a single place is hard – I love the whole west coast of Ireland! Hard pressed, I’d have to say Mayo’s Nephin Beg hills, where you find properly wild landscapes and not a farmhouse in sight!

Not a lot of people know this

I love bikes – all kinds. Most people know that I love bicycles and mountain bikes, but I also have a special spot for vintage motorbikes!

I love being active and enjoying the outdoors. From adventure racing – which combines many sports such as hiking, mountain biking, kayaking and climbing – to cycle-touring, I love to travel and explore by my own power. I’ve travelled and lived abroad, and feel intensely lucky to have visited some of the world’s most amazing sites – Mt Kilimanjaro, the Atlas Mountains, the Inca Trail, the Alps. Even Everest basecamp! Closer to home, I spend a lot of time on the west coast, especially Mayo, Sligo, Connemara… and can’t wait to share these amazing places with you!

The far-flung corners of the earth have always intrigued me, drawing me to discover the world. Amongst other adventures, I’ve been lucky enough to follow the Inca Trail in Peru, climb the iconic Mt Kilimanjaro, hike across the High Atlas Mountains in Morocco as well as summit Morocco’s 4,000 metre (13,600 ft) Mt Toubkal and even trekked to Mount Everest basecamp.

An apt cyclist, I’ve bike 1,200 kms (745 miles) on the Eurovelo 6 route that winds its way through the beautiful backcountry, tiny villages and Alpine landscapes of France, Switzerland and Germany. I also decided that I wanted to visit Vietnam, but wanted to do it in a different way than most – so I decided to tour Vietnam by bike!

Not only have I travelled to the farthest reaches of the world, but I’ve lived there too – I spent about 5 months in New Zealand, exploring the rich and dramatic mountainous landscapes of this beautiful country.

I’m a keen competitor in adventure racing – an intense multi-discipline sporting event that combines things like navigation, cross-country running, mountain biking, kayaking/paddling and climbing.

In 2018, I completed in the 312 km (194 miles)-long Coast to Coast adventure race. Through darkness and daylight, the Coast to Coast race goes from Enniscrone on the west coast of Ireland across the country to Newcastle on the east coast and combines running, biking and kayaking.

I enjoy road cycling and off-road mountain biking as well as hill running and kayaking – probably why I enjoy adventure races that combine many of my favourite places in one.

I have also completed the 4 peaks challenge and the 12 Bens. I especially like the west coast of Ireland – I am especially fond of the wilds of Mayo and the vast landscapes of Connemara. I also love Dublin – it’s a great city with world class food bars and activities.

I’m an active person and thrive on adrenaline, activity and competition. As stated, I’m interested in adventure racing, and mountain biking. I love a good run (the wilder the terrain, the better!) and of course I love to get out every chance I get, hiking the mountain and landscapes of Ireland.

On the other end of the biking spectrum, I also ride motorcycling! I am especially interested in vintage motorbikes, and enjoy restoring said vintage motorbikes in my spare time (or when the weather’s not ideal for outdoor sports…).
