    Mini Bio

I’m Jerome from Belleek, a small town sitting on Fermanagh and Donegal border in northwest Ireland. I love travelling, trees, biking and hiking.

    Favourite Place to Play

In the world, my favourite place is the mountains of the Costa del Sol. But in Ireland, it will always be the northwest region – an underrated gem.

Not a lot of People Know This

At age 21, I drove a Mercedes from New York to San Francisco.

I have over 20 years of experience guiding. I’ve travelled, biked, hiked and driven in almost 40 countries to date, including the Costa Rican rainforest, jungles of Borneo and mountains in Morocco. Some of my favourite countries have been Spain, New Zealand and Panama, to name just a few.

Trekking through an area in Borneo called the Maliau Basin whilst on Expedition – fewer people have been there than Everest! Or a solo winter ascent of Mulhacen, the Iberian peninsula’s highest mountain.

What Fellow Travellers Say About Jerome

We received a good description of our roads on the first day of this self-guided trip : a printed Garmin map for everyday with a list of roads and turns plus a description of the elevation and distance. Minor annoyance : distances were in miles and elevation in feet. Every day, our guide gave us advice for the road ahead, provided us with small snacks, made suggestions for lunch stop.

Maybe he could have given better tourist information about some places we passed by but maybe that is not really the role you assign to him. I had prepared as much as I could from home before the trip but I could not be very accurate because at the time I didn't know precisely which routes we would take. So yes, I would have appreciated more info like "look out for the Poulnabrone dolmen at about 30 km".

Another suggestion I'd like to make : providing us with gps devices was great but I had also my own gps (if only to record my data) to which I am more accustomed. Therefore it would have been great if I had had the opportunity to download a gpx file on my own device. (I didn't ask the guide because I didn't want to bother him with that : I suppose that is something that should be administered by IT with a secure website to download gpx with a password if you do not want to make the gpx avalaible to everyone.)

Jerome was a really good guide, and also a very kind person. I'm a bit of a slow hiker, but I never felt pressure to keep up with the group.

Jerome was terrific. Obviously an experienced and knowledgeable guide. With great people skills. He shared a lot of information about the area. And he spent time walking with each hiker to chat with them personally.

Our guide, Jerome, handled all the quirks of our tour seamlessly - from multiple drivers to Slieve League closure. When he needed to pivot for an alternative, he found an amazing spot and we didn't feel like we missed out. His willingness to educate us on Ireland and answer all questions we asked him was appreciated. I learned about the history, the habitat, and everything in between.

While there were some communication issues initially, the overall experience was positive due to the guides' incredible hospitality and accommodating nature. We were on Jerome's first trip with Wilderness Ireland. There was a breakdown in communication between him and the sales office. We were told that hikes would be determined daily based on our fitness level. Jerome thought we were following the itinerary. He quickly pivoted and accommodated our preferences. However, to avoid confusion, the sales office should communicate with the guide about the group's daily hiking plans and fitness levels before the trip. This would ensure that the guide can plan the hikes accordingly and avoid any last-minute adjustments.

As mentioned earlier, Gabhan was an incredible addition and was so accommodating and hospitable. The conversation with our guides was easy and comfortable. Both were avid world travelers with extensive local knowledge of the regions we were traveling to. We learned a lot about the Irish culture and the incredible natural environment on our daily hikes, while driving in the car, or over a picnic lunch or end-of-day meal. Darragh set the stage with entertainment. He had the best playlist, and we had so much fun listening to different playlists/ artists on our long drives.

We had the best time, and our guides truly made the experience.
