The food provided and the recommendations for where to eat weere great. We felt the absence of firm beds in the second to last stay.

Donncha was informing and entertaining.

A lovely trip. Even though weather intervened on some of the planned activities, our guide came up with alternatives that pleased us.

Incredible staff - worked with our family to accommodate our travel plans and facilitated a pick-up at the Dublin airport!

Louise was especially helpful throughout the booking and preparation process.

Our tour guide Paul was phenomenal throughout our entire journey!
Trip Comments
The weather not withstanding, we had a great experience.

The one event we probably would have done differently was the survival class at Adelphia - would have much preferred to do the ropes course.
Accommodation and Food
Food was excellent and lodging was very good. The first lodging in Westport was much better than the Adelphia (creaky floors and limited space, even with our loft upgrade).
Your Guide
As previously mentioned, Paul was phenomenal - could not have asked for a better guide; felt like he was part of our family throughout the entire trip!!!
The Bottom Line
Absolutely incredible trip that caters to your family interests, desires, likes! Without hesitation, I would recommend this trip to other families.

Trip to Skellig Islands was wonderful - absolutely beautiful weather - sunny, clear sky, calm sea.
Accommodation and Food
Enjoyed stay at Kenmare Lodge and Dromoland Castle but loved everything about Gregan's Castle. I would travel to Ireland again just to spend a few days there. Both the service and food were outstanding.
Your Guide
Warner Wilders gets a 5 star rating. Loved his outgoing personality, fun sense of humor, positive attitude, etc, etc. The trip was successful in large part due to having him as our group's guide.
The Bottom Line
Simply put - An outstanding experience in adventure travel - a wonderful mix of activities that appealed to everyone in our group.

From our first lunch together to our final transfer to sligo the trip was wonderful! Our guides, Darragh and Shane were knowledgeable, competent, helpful, and a pleasure to be with. I especially wish to thank them both for the efforts they made to help me get my phone back.

Each day of our ride had its unique delights and challenges. Day One was somewhat rainy, hilly, and a bit scary as we got to know our bikes and each other. I must say it was a relief to get to our first Bed and Breakfast in one piece. By Day Two the ride became more fun and scenic, with amazing cliffs, lots of sheep, a beautiful beach and two great waterfalls. The challenge of two mountain passes was tempered by the beauty of the Irish countryside, and the happy hour we found back at our house.

Day Three was cut short by rain, and no one complained. A morning of lots of climbing brought us to a lovely beach which we got to enjoy by overlooking it from a glassed in restaurant with great food. After our transfer to our next hotel we travelled up a very long hill to Horns Head and were thrilled not to bike it. The view was outstanding and we took lots of photos, including some group photos with our mascot, Kevin the pineapple.

Day Four had a castle, a climb up Mt. Muckish and for us a demonstration of dogs herding sheep. As always, the scenery was amazing and lots of photos were taken that day. Darragh cycled with us on Day Four and proved himself a worthy cyclist as well. Day Five included another impressive climb, which our guides seemed to have conveniently kept under wraps until we rounded a corner and found it looming ahead. But what an amazing climb it was! We climbed past a gorgeous beach which we were told at the top was voted the second most beautiful beach in the world last year, and the decent toward the water took our breath away. At the top we were treated to a special snack of chocolate eaten with salt and vinegar crisps, which we had to "put in our gobs." Funny and delicious! As we arrived at Rathmullen House we were treated to a picnic of beer and snacks on the lawn in the sunshine. Thank you! That was a welcome treat.

Day Six was amazing for a number of reasons. It started on a ferry, then we climbed another mountain, we ate lunch at Nancy's and had the best seafood chowder in the world--really! But the afternoon ride was probably the most memorable of the whole trip. We rode in a driving rain along the shore of Lough Swilly toward Malin Head. I kept thinking of the quote: "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger," and was feeling noticeably stronger by the time we caught up with Darrah and his special treat of Kevin and a bit of Irish Whiskey. Very fun! And for the last time, he was not totally forthcoming about the climb we had ahead. But our final climb from the beach to Malin Head was gorgeous, if not a bit challenging. We all made it, exchanged High Fives and transferred back to Rathmullen House for a final dinner together. Great day!
Accommodation and Food
I loved that we only had three different hotels. It was a treat to be able to stay two nights at each place and not have to pack up as often. All accommodations were very nice.

The food was amazing! Darragh and Shane's special Irish Oatmeal was a treat for two breakfasts, but all breakfasts and lunches were excellent.. We were impressed with each lunch stop; obviously you have been to these places before and chose well. And the dinners were had were just as good--we appreciated the restaurants chosen.
Your Guide
Darragh and Shane were both excellent. They were very knowledgeable and friendly and always helpful. We especially appreciated how much we learned from them of Irish culture and history. They were both warm and genuine, and always made us feel at ease--just good guys to be around.
As I said before, I especially appreciated how they both made the inquiries necessary to help me get my phone back. Thank you!
The Bottom Line
We found Wilderness Ireland to be an extremely professional operation from beginning to end. Great experience and we would do it again!

I would not use the bed and breakfast again where we stayed three nights. People were polite there but mattresses were very old and uncomfortable and no place to gather and have a drink before going out to dinner.
Also the service at the restaurant in Dromoland Castle was very snobby and sub par.

Warner Wilders (guide) and Jim the bus driver could not have been more agreeable and informative. They are the ones who made our trip so great... and of course the friendly Irish people, beautiful scenery, yummy pub food, great beer also helped.
Accommodation and Food
Food through out trip, even the pub food, was way better than we expected, Ireland has had a no longer deserved reputation for boring food. Those days are over.

Best accommodations of trip were Gregans castle. Amazing staff, comfortable sitting rooms to take a breather and excellent food.

Dromoland castle was a disappointment. Beautiful and impressive from outside and worth seeing for that reason. Staff was not near as cordial or personable as at Gregans nor was the food as good. Dromolands is over priced. We would rather have stayed an extra night at Gregans. Only big plus of Dromoland is its proximity to Shannon airport.

Best meal of trip was at the Lime Tree in Kenmare.
Your Guide
Warner Wilders and Jim could not have been any more accommodating. Warner regaled us with facts about Ireland and his own misadventures.
The Bottom Line
Being total newbies to Ireland we found the guided tour to be a stress free way to see Ireland. Activity level was appropriate for our group.

Trip Comments
The guides were extremely knowledgeable, especially Mr. O'Grady who was outstanding. The Burren experience was especially interesting. We loved the trip to Skellig Michael. The driving routes offered numerous scenic opportunities. A suggestion: it would be helpful to have more detail on time required for excursions such as Skellig Michael and Gap of Dunloe. Both turned out to be longer than we expected. By the way, we're not sure why but we had a lot of trouble finding Barrow House. Thank you for recommending the dolphin trip and visiting the Dingle distillery. Both were great.
Accommodation and Food
Accommodations were wonderful. Sheedy's was happy to see us as they said they don't receive much business from Wilderness Ireland. We thought they were great. Breakfasts were all good and the one at Heaton's was outstanding (one son said it was the best breakfast he's ever had.) Sheen Falls was glorious. The Europe was a good, standard hotel. The management of Gregan's Castle Hotel provided lots of assistance as we adjusted to being in Ireland. Barrow House was a gem. Staff were friendly and helpful everywhere.

One son tried every seafood chowder and ranked them ....Roadside Tavern was number one.

By the way, when we arrived Sheen Falls had us there for two nights but our itinerary only had us there one night. We called your emergency number - Dawn told us we were there two nights . Just a little glitch with your travel plans. And, it turned out to be a good thing we were there two nights because we were tired after the Skellig Michael experience. There was probably no way we could have got back in the car and driven several hours.
Your Guide
As mentioned previously, Mr. O'Grady was excellent and so knowledgeable. His tour was a unique experience. Mr. O'Shea was quiet but gave us an enjoyable experience. (by the way, his trip was an hour and 45 minutes one way!). Our guide for the boat trip back from the Gap of Dunloe was probably interesting but we really couldn't hear him well. Quite an interesting boat ride.

About the self-guided parts of the trip: given the challenges of driving in Ireland, travel time and complexity may have been underestimated. We dropped one guided tour (Torc Mountain) in part because of an injury and in part because the schedule was too jam-packed.

By the way, Kenmare and Killarney were interesting, enjoyable places.
The Bottom Line
We are happy we found and contracted with Wilderness Ireland. This was an experience that we wouldn't have had otherwise. We saw and did things that were amazing. It was a great trip!
