Trip Comments
Our guides Warner and Andrew were fantastic. They went out of their way to make our trip an enjoyable experience. Their knowledge of the areas we visited was commendable. Our 2 nights on the Aran Islands was the highlight for me surrounded by history, the local craic and wonderful food enhanced the whole experience.
Accommodation and Food
The accommodation was excellent and the food recommendations from our guides first class.
Your Guide
Warner and Andrew were the reason our trip was so enjoyable. Their knowledge of the area and their bubbly personalities and wit made our adventure even more fun. Both of them had the ability to spin a good Irish yarn.
The Bottom Line
Although the weather was not really on our side it was a riding experience that exceeded my expectations. Beautiful countryside by day and loads of fun at night, all due to our wonderful guides Warner and Andrew. Thanks Wilderness Ireland.

Fantastic
Your Guide
Both guides were great- knowledgeable, witty, very competent in lots of ways.
The Bottom Line
The route was great but seriously needs Garmin maps as there are many little roads that aren’t covered by paper maps without very extensive writing; bikes need fully packed back packs with tubes, levers, pumps etc even if guides are there to change tyres; daily debrief and briefing for next day would mean riders could be better prepared to leave on time. With such a small group it would be easy to facilitate. Route maps provided the day before ( we really appreciated that Andrew spent a lot of energy redoing them each night as they were incorrect) but for next time this should not be an issue.
Drop the boat ride to Arran island. Weather can be dodgy and we didn’t see anyth8ng as so much time was spent in the crossing. It also meant that we didn’t really ride the whole way from Mizzen to Mallen.
The support vehicle needs to carry a better supply of munchies such as energy bars, nuts, tablets for water bottles - long rides need food along the way. Lunch venues were really wonderful.
Absolutely recommend the trip to anybody with sound riding strength. Thanks for wonderful trip

There was lots of information available though the exact route was not there until a week before - but this was because it was the first time that it had run. The payment information from Australia was confusing. The information was more applicable to EU/UK/USA and there were things there that Australian banks do not use. They are are particular to the US. The fees to pay you were quite expensive and it would have been good to get information on the best way to pay right at the start. Eg Fees for my first credit card deposit were about 50 Euros - there was a cheaper way to pay through a transfer and this should have been in the information.
Trip Comments
Ok here are the things that needed to be reviewed in my opinion:
1. The bikes were delivered in pretty ordinary condition. The chains and gearing were extremely dirty - this affected performance with chains slipping. Guides repaired them on the run but they needed to have a mechanic go over them before delivery. Especially for a longer ride.
2. Once bikes were cleaned and repaired they were great.
3. Bikes need a full puncture repair kit including pump and tubes and levers. I had three punctures which is to be expected and I could have fixed them myself in no time and been on the road but there was no equipment on the bike and I had to wait for guide with the equipment. This took the guide away from supporting the whole group or others who needed someone to change the tyre when they had a puncture. We should have the option of changing it ourselves.
4. The map notes were useless. I followed the gpx supplied by Wilderness Ireland on my garmin and that was much more effective. The only time I went off course was when the gpx was wrong. We spent a lot of time with people going in the wrong direction. For such a long and complex trip the only way to go is with a touring gps system on each bike with the route. There is no way on longer rides like this the group will stay together. All power to the guides they way they chased us around and fixed up the navigation problems.
5. The trip is supposed to be from south to north. I was disappointed by the two transfers on the bus as I wanted to cycle the whole way. This was the general consensus of the group. The trip to the Aran Islands was a waste of time as the only thing there was shops if you weren't staying. It would have been better to have an optional ride or transfer on this day. I understand that there were problems with one section where we were in the bus because of a lack of accommodation options. I think this should be looked at even if it means one extra day on the trip.

But having said the above I think these were minor compared to the value and how fabulous the trip was. I also think you should thank the guides - they went above and beyond to fix and smooth over the navigation and bike mechanical problems. This and the fact that the group were laid back and experienced cyclists meant that what could have been a major problem was more an irritant or embraced as a bit of a laugh that didn't detract from the day.
Accommodation and Food
run with what you had and recommendations for food from the guides were great.
Your Guide
Went above and beyond. Both guides were outstanding and we have done a lot of guided bike trips but never with your company.
The Bottom Line
The whole concept of south to north and along the Wild Atlantic Way was excellent. Accommodation was outstanding. Guides and personnel were fabulous. In general I would highly recommend this trip to others provided a few glitches were sorted.

Trip Comments
From our first lunch together to our final transfer to sligo the trip was wonderful! Our guides, Darragh and Shane were knowledgeable, competent, helpful, and a pleasure to be with. I especially wish to thank them both for the efforts they made to help me get my phone back.

Each day of our ride had its unique delights and challenges. Day One was somewhat rainy, hilly, and a bit scary as we got to know our bikes and each other. I must say it was a relief to get to our first Bed and Breakfast in one piece. By Day Two the ride became more fun and scenic, with amazing cliffs, lots of sheep, a beautiful beach and two great waterfalls. The challenge of two mountain passes was tempered by the beauty of the Irish countryside, and the happy hour we found back at our house.

Day Three was cut short by rain, and no one complained. A morning of lots of climbing brought us to a lovely beach which we got to enjoy by overlooking it from a glassed in restaurant with great food. After our transfer to our next hotel we travelled up a very long hill to Horns Head and were thrilled not to bike it. The view was outstanding and we took lots of photos, including some group photos with our mascot, Kevin the pineapple.

Day Four had a castle, a climb up Mt. Muckish and for us a demonstration of dogs herding sheep. As always, the scenery was amazing and lots of photos were taken that day. Darragh cycled with us on Day Four and proved himself a worthy cyclist as well. Day Five included another impressive climb, which our guides seemed to have conveniently kept under wraps until we rounded a corner and found it looming ahead. But what an amazing climb it was! We climbed past a gorgeous beach which we were told at the top was voted the second most beautiful beach in the world last year, and the decent toward the water took our breath away. At the top we were treated to a special snack of chocolate eaten with salt and vinegar crisps, which we had to "put in our gobs." Funny and delicious! As we arrived at Rathmullen House we were treated to a picnic of beer and snacks on the lawn in the sunshine. Thank you! That was a welcome treat.

Day Six was amazing for a number of reasons. It started on a ferry, then we climbed another mountain, we ate lunch at Nancy's and had the best seafood chowder in the world--really! But the afternoon ride was probably the most memorable of the whole trip. We rode in a driving rain along the shore of Lough Swilly toward Malin Head. I kept thinking of the quote: "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger," and was feeling noticeably stronger by the time we caught up with Darrah and his special treat of Kevin and a bit of Irish Whiskey. Very fun! And for the last time, he was not totally forthcoming about the climb we had ahead. But our final climb from the beach to Malin Head was gorgeous, if not a bit challenging. We all made it, exchanged High Fives and transferred back to Rathmullen House for a final dinner together. Great day!
Accommodation and Food
I loved that we only had three different hotels. It was a treat to be able to stay two nights at each place and not have to pack up as often. All accommodations were very nice.

The food was amazing! Darragh and Shane's special Irish Oatmeal was a treat for two breakfasts, but all breakfasts and lunches were excellent.. We were impressed with each lunch stop; obviously you have been to these places before and chose well. And the dinners were had were just as good--we appreciated the restaurants chosen.
Your Guide
Darragh and Shane were both excellent. They were very knowledgeable and friendly and always helpful. We especially appreciated how much we learned from them of Irish culture and history. They were both warm and genuine, and always made us feel at ease--just good guys to be around.
As I said before, I especially appreciated how they both made the inquiries necessary to help me get my phone back. Thank you!
The Bottom Line
We found Wilderness Ireland to be an extremely professional operation from beginning to end. Great experience and we would do it again!

Trip Comments
It was amazing. The trip was planned very well and supported extremely well. We were taken care of from food and snacks. All the accommodations were great! And, my favorite part was our guides. Loved Darragh and Shane! They were very patient and worked well together. My husband and I really enjoyed them.
Accommodation and Food
Lobed all the accommodations. They were clean and very nice. We loved all the accommodations. The food was amazing too.

They were great. They let us know where all of our turns were, where we were eating, and were great with providing snacks and breaks at the right times. Again, we absolutely loved every part of the trip, especially our guides Shane and Darragh.
The Bottom Line
This is one of the best trips we have ever taken. I am already recommending Wilderness Ireland to everyone that asks about our trip. We were very well supported from the guides taking care of us, the bikes, the food, the accommodations, the company we had during the trip. We absolutely would do it again. The scenery was unbelievable. Just beautiful! Just remember, stay to the left on the road!

We especially loved our guides, Warner and Andrew! They were fun, informative, competent and adaptive, especially given some of the issues coming from the main office (poorly maintained bikes, some bad route notes)
Accommodation and Food
Most of the hotels were really great. The hotel in Schull was really charming, but our bed was horrendous (lumpy, bouncy springs). We also would have preferred a rest day in Clifden (GREAT hotel, cute town, plus the option to do a short loop ride) rather than in Weston (generic hotel, not much to do in town). The Lodge and the Waters were also fantastic!
Your Guide
Warner and Andrew really made the experience -- they were fun, informative, attentive, adaptive.
The Bottom Line
This was apparently the first time the Wild Atlantic Way trip was offered, so there are a few glitches to work out before next time , but overall we loved the trip and would recommend it to others. My recommendations: improve the route notes A LOT (do not use google maps instructions, but rather have someone drive/bike the route and take notes about landmarks, etec.), take fewer busy roads even if that means longer days, because the mileage was quite easy. Also, make sure bikes are in top condition--we had rusty, dry chains, no pumps or spare tubes... Also, possibly rethink the rest day location. Finally, we felt that me missed a lot of interesting sites along the way, so add in planned mini-stops to see abbeys, tombs or whatever, rather than just focussing on getting from point A to point B.
Finally, keep Warner and Andrew on the trip, they were awesome and really made the trip!

The guides were awesome- we had a really good time with them. We liked the accommodations and the food was great!
Accommodation and Food
The Sand House Hotel was my least favourite place to stay. Although the view of the water and the beach was awesome, the hotel is dated and the room was hot (temperature wise).
Your Guide
They provided us with good information and support. My only suggestion for improvement would be that it would have been nice for the water bottles to have been washed on a daily basis. It left potential for infections to potentially spread between the riders.
The Bottom Line
We had a great time and would definitely would like to return for another trip in the future!
